Braunstone and Thorpe Astley Parish to see no change

Blaby District Council will not be recommending any changes to the local governance of Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley Parish following a public consultation.

Listening to the views of residents, the majority of responses from residents living in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley to the consultation supported the current arrangements.

With more than 7,100 properties, and around 12,500 electors in the area, the Parish of Braunstone and Thorpe Astley is the largest in the district, made up of two distinct communities in Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley.

A consultation ran from January to March 2022 and asked for feedback on the local governance arrangements for the Parish and whether any changes were required. This could have included setting up a new Parish Council for Thorpe Astley.

At the most recent Full Council meeting on 05 April, Councillors approved the proposal not to recommend any changes.

Councillor Terry Richardson, Leader of Blaby District Council, said: "We are thankful for those who took part in this consultation. As we have said from the outset this review would be led by the views of residents, and they have made their voices heard.

"The consultation also highlighted to us a number of concerns which were raised to us. We are determined to work collaboratively with Braunstone Town Council to resolve these and ensure that residents of Braunstone Town and Thorpe Astley have the best possible governance."
